Storyboard

Too often people want someone else's spiritual journey rather than their own. I've discovered that the more I am conscious and accepting of God's love for me, the more I can accept myself and the unique way that my spiritual path unfolds.  God created each of us out of love.  We are beauty set to music.  We are one-of-a-kind, unique, meant to be a light of love in transforming our world.  -Joyce Rupp, The Cup of Life

I read the section of my devotion a few days ago and was again reminded of the power of writing my own story, not someone else's.  At our MOPS convention earlier this month, we began the session with one called "Storyboard".  Sara Groves sang and Kathi Lipp spoke.  We talked about 1- the cast of characters in our story 2- the plot 3- the conflict and 4- the resolution.

We spent a lot of time on the cast of characters.  How we are unique in so many ways.  We are not a perfect mother but we are the perfect mother for our children.  As the quote above says, we can't live someone else's journey or life.

My friend Laura and I figured that out during the presentation.  WIth tears rolling down our faces we said we didn't want to live each others lives.  Laura had been digging for a pen for the person sitting next to her and had missed the instructions.  The speaker had asked us to fill in the cast of characters on our paper starting with ourselves in big letters.  While the speaker went on, Laura quietly copied the information I had written on my paper including my name instead of her own.  We laughed at the irony of it. (We were really tired and our names both start with L....).  But it proved a point.  So many times we try to write our names in someone else's story or we try to fit what they seem to have that we want in our own.  We spend so much time not living our own lives and it wears on us.  It brings us down.  We compare marriages, kids, parenting styles, etc and it is just tiring.  God calls us each to live our own lives.    We only see what people want us to see of their lives.  We can't settle for the limitations of someone else's life.

Our lives are God's storyboard.  They are written just for us and for our family!  We are called to live that story.
