We had a little fire in our furnace. The furnace decided not to shut off and blew stinky nasty smoke into my house. Thankfully we were not home. We are all safe! Our stuff, on the other hand, smells like a shrinky dink project gone very wrong. The furance was attached to something that was a piece of plastic. So the plastic melted and the smell that followed will linger for a long time. We are very thankful for an amazing insurance company and our church family that is taking very good care of us. We are blessed.
This doesn't mean I'm not grieving. I do realize it is all stuff. But right now, I'm trying to live with a family of 5 and we are missing a lot of our normal living things. We are waiting patiently for the cleaning service and trying not to run out and buy everything. At this point we can't use anything from the house, but if they can salvage it we don't want to have spent money foolishly and have two of things!
We stayed with a family from church this last week and we are in a rental cabin now. My mom has come to help and we are all together which is the most important thing. We will see how long this process takes! Because my brain feels like it's a washing machine on spin cycle, I'm going to update my goals for 2014.
14. Do the declutter in 2013 challenge from Slow Your Home.
Well, this might be taken care of in the span of two weeks. Pretty much every item in my home will be looked at, cleaned, and I can decide what to do with it. Not exactly how I wanted to complete this project!
13. Get a handle on the yarn stash.
My yarn is gone. Unless it was a project that was completed, I had to get rid of it. It stinks and can not be cleaned.
12. Crochet a real granny square blanket.
I had 24 squares done. I think they took them to the cleaners, but they might not be saveable.
11. Pay off the car.
This is seeming further and further away. It's been one thing after another the last month. We will regroup soon and see!
10. Reread and finish reading books I just found on my kindle/shelves. Books include Pastrix, Holding Your Family Together, Money Secrets of the Amish, and Inside-Out Simplicity.
My books are covered in smoke. I have a few on my kindle but I haven't really had time to read. I'm almost done with one.
9. Do one thing on my Minnesota bucket list. *Hello Duluth or Itasca State Park and other state parks*
Nope, not yet.
8. Finish the kids books of yearly pictures and update their baby books.
Nope!
7. Run a 10K in under an hour.
Haven't run lately...I'm ready to get outside.
6. Do something special for our 10 year anniversary.
We have discussed it!
5. Send out Easter cards (since we missed Christmas...)
This could still happen!
4. Throw a "friends" birthday party for each of the boys.
Matthew's birthday was Wednesday. We celebrated at our friends house, but he needs a real party. This will have to wait until I get back into our house. I'm sad.
3. Read a devotional *frequently*. Let's be honest, every day sounds great, but I'm being real.
This has also fallen off. Reading this reminds me to start up again. You can always try again.
2. Slowly start to help/do things at church/MOPS again. *Being pregnant and having a baby was tough work!*
I'm feeling so overwhelmed that I'm not even thinking of this right now.
1. Pray for my kids and husband everyday!
My son cried at school the day after the fire. I've been praying like crazy. When we took the boys over to show them the house, we prayed as a family before leaving. It feels good.
