I hear so many people talk about giving things up for Lent. I also hear of people doing other things to grow closer to God. That's the whole reason we take this walk for 40 days is to grow closer in our relationship with the One who came to save us. Our giving up originally started as fasting. I think that still holds true today, the language has just changed. We give up something or "fast" from it for 40 days. I know of people who still actually fast once a week during Lent and those who don't eat meat and others who give up chocolate or pop. I'm just not one to give up food. I either fail miserably or I don't get the relationship connection that I want out of it.
This year I know what I'm giving up. I'm giving up one of my lazy habits. I'm a lazy morning person. I am a morning person, but just lazy about it. For example, I was in my pjs until 11:15 on Ash Wednesday. I finally showered and got semi ready. I got the kids dressed in time for lunch and finally turned off the TV. If I'm not up and dressed and going, I feel like it's a sick day. I just keep the TV going while I putter around the house. We're never able to go right away and do anything, like take a walk. It becomes a chore to get ready, get out the door, and by that point the fun of the outing is lost.
So, for Lent I'm going to give up that lazy habit. I enlisted the help of my hubby to keep me accountable. It is almost impossible to get up and ready before the kiddos are up. We have early riser, like 6:00am early risers. Instead, I want to get them a drink and they can watch a show while I quickly get ready. Then we can have breakfast and get them dressed. That way, if the bakery and a walk are calling our name, we are ready in time to go after morning nap instead of eating a donut for lunch. I know I can do it. I also know I have to give up that mentality that I should wait until I work out for the day to get ready. My life never goes on schedule. Somedays it's beautiful and my hubby will come home in time for me to get a quick run in during lunch and other days it's right after work. So, I will just have to be ready for whatever life brings.
I also know if this is my job at home, I need to be ready to do it. Not many people go to work in their pjs and are productive or successful (or even employed at some places!). I've gotta be ready to be a mom! So, here we go. Day #1=Success!
Good for you! I'm usually pretty good at getting myself dressed, but lazy about the girls getting into daytime clothes. Too often I let them run around in their pjs all day.
