#1- This biggest thing. Did you know that kids in my school district need at least 3 pairs of shoes? I'm just mad and sad about this. I went shopping with my friend today and her kids were getting school supplies. She mentioned she would have to find J another pair of shoes. I asked which ones. She said he needed 2 pairs to leave at school. One for recess and one for gym. What? I was hot and I'm sure she thinks I was crazy. My husband just fixed meals for an organization called "Feed My Starving Children" and we are making kids buy at least 3 pairs of shoes for school. One to wear to and from school and two pairs to leave there? I know there are probably safety issues and it's easier on the gym floor etc. But what makes me mad is that some of these kids don't have enough to eat. The only two meals come from being at school. Now, we are going to make them buy 3 pairs of shoes or ask for more donations to have the supplies needed to go to school. Really? Then I couldn't help but bite my nails off thinking "this is what my kid is going to be spending his time doing, taking his shoes on and off at school." How much time is that wasting when 15 kindergartners will be trying to get shoes on and off 3 times a day. Geez. I mentioned the "h" word (homeschooling) to my hubby but that won't happen. I just said it was another reason that I can see why others choose to homeschool. Anyway, in the end we decided I should contact one of the teachers or the principal (we know both from church) and see if there is someone we can buy a pair of shoes for or donate money to some kind of fund to make sure each kid has enough shoes for school.
#2- I'm fired up about water. I have a goal to only drink water this week. I am trying to lose some weight and I know how many calories I consume in liquid each week that is not healthy for me. It was tough today to get water at the fast food place instead of grabbing my usual root beer, but I did it. Hopefully I can continue to make some healthy choices in other areas of my eating. This is a start though.
#3- I'm fired up about running again. My hubby and I signed up for a 10K in October finally. It should be a fun race with some seminary friends. I also am hoping to run a 1/2 marathon in May. It is the Sunday before my sisters wedding in Nebraska. It should work out perfect if it doesn't stress my mom out to watch the boys that morning with less than a week before the wedding. I'm sure the baby's giggles will win her over.
#4- It's girls night out for me tonight. What more to fire me up than hanging out with my friends. I'm blessed to have a hubby that will come home and let me take off for the evening.
#5- I'm also fired up for MOPS. Are you a mommy with kids under 5? If so, check it out! I love, l-o-v-e my MOPS group. I can't wait for our planning meetings to start tomorrow. It is a blast hanging out with other moms every week (or every other). They have taught me a lot and I hope we can bless some new moms (and returning moms) this year like I have been blessed!
Don't forget to visit Carissa and see who is else is feeling miscellany today!

I love your fired up list! That is pretty nuts about shoes. Three pairs? I just wrote a quick post about my nervousness about school starting.
ReplyDeleteYou'd be happy to know I made it to MOPS this morning. Still have some "fitting in" stuff to work on but I'm hoping things will continue to improve. I hate the beginning get to know you stuff, I guess.
Hope you have a fun girls night out!!!
Awesome Misc. Lindy! I used to volunteer at MOPS but since becoming a Mommy I haven't been! I've started waking up at 6 to run because of the heat, blech! But running is so much fun. Mr. S always tried me to join the X Country team in high school...why didn't I do it???
ReplyDeleteThree pair of shoes? Are you kidding me? That's crazy.
ReplyDeleteOh I need to get fired up about water too. It really helps with weight loss.
I am fired up about my girls movie night on Friday night. We are watching the six hour British film, "Wives & Daughters".
Hope you had a great day!
That's insane about school! With my daughter going to Pre School they told us we couldn't buy their uniforms from retail stores. We had to buy them through the uniform company. First of all, if I was going to shell out $$ on uniforms, I'd send her to a private school, not a public one. I ended up just buying them from Old Navy and spending $200 LESS. I don't care if they yell at me. We're low income and can't afford the high price of uniforms through the company. Its so frustrating how these people just don't realize th state of the economy.
ReplyDeleteI participated in Miscellany Monday too if you want to come visit us. :)
