Habits

They say it takes 20 some days to form a habit.  I've been forming one without even knowing it lately. My alarm clock has been ringing at 6:30am for the past two weeks.  Cross Country practice is forming a habit for me that I actually like.  I love getting up before the family and getting a few things done.

I'm also trying to create some better eating habits.  I'm sure most of us know how hard that is.  The one thing that keeps me going is that I always have the next meal.  If I mess up and make a bad choice, I can give my self that little pep talk.  "The next meal you will eat better.  You have tomorrow and you can make better choices".  Those little things seem to keep me going.

On the other hand, forming new money habits is a different kind of hard!  I can see why a lot of people just continually make poor money decision or never do anything about it.  It's challenging in a different way than learning to wake up earlier or eating better.  If I make a poor decision with my money sometimes I have to wait weeks to fix the wrong.  The next paycheck might not come for days.  It's hard to keep yourself motivated when you have made a bad choice and have to just sit with the consequences for a long time.  I can see why many people just say "oh well since I already messed up I will go buy this.  It will make me feel better and I can fix it next month".  The cycle just keeps going.  Next month, you are still cleaning up the poor decisions and can't get ahead.

I hope I can continue the few good habits I have formed these last few weeks.  RIght now, I just need to motivate myself to continue forming the new money habits.  We'll see where I'm at in another 20 days!  Here's to good habits forming daily!
