My new favorite song is Closer to Love by Mat Kearney. Ah, it just makes me smile (and sometimes cry a little). He is not considered a "Christian" artist, but his songs sure have a lot of meaning behind them. At least that I hear. This song though got me thinking, what draws you closer to Love? Not love like romantic mushy stuff, but Love. The Love. What draws you closer to God and to the Love who gave his life to die on the cross for us? How does that Love show his face to you? Yeah, we have all of those original answers, pray, reading the Word etc., but what else?
We each find that Love in a different way, don't we? I took a spiritual practices class that discussed how we each hear the voice of God differently and need to worship differently to fill our cups. Each of us as individuals do not get filled up the same way. So, how do get filled with that Love?
Right now for me, it's the sun shining and the fact that I can be outside. It's having wonderful friends that I never expected to find. Yes, it's still prayer and the Word of God and listening for his voice, but I do hear that voice. I hear that voice when we are playing outside, the snow is melting, my friends are caring people who have the words or presence I need at the right time. I see and feel the Love. That one true Love in all of those things. In the fact that both boys are napping at the same time. That my wonderful husband rearranged his schedule so I could have some time to shop today. That I can get out and walk (and maybe run soon) after having a baby less than 3 weeks ago. Yes, I can hear and feel Love. The true Love.
Hi Lindy! Hope this finds you doing well. Thanks for your post today! It was a nice reminder and a great jumpstarter for my sermon for Sunday. THANK YOU! THANK YOU! Mary has this overwhelming love which compels her to wash Jesus' feet. The crazy thing is it would have been embarrassing for a woman of that time to let down her hair, let a lone wash the feet of a man. She too reminds us what love is....the love of this wonderful Jesus who died on a cross for each and every one of us! Sorry for the long post!
ReplyDeleteLOVE this post, especially all you said in the last paragraph. All of it is so true and I'm so thankful for wonderful friendships and quiet moments that make my heart smile too!
