Your Treasure

For where you treasure is, there your heart will be also.
Matthew 6:21

We had one more meeting with our financial counselor a few weeks ago.  She gave us lots of good advice and now it's up to us to make the decisions.  She can't walk with us every time we go to the store to tell us how to spend our money.  It was a very eye opening experience and she was right.  She was just there to be our mirror and give us some advice.

I'm not thinking it is 100% true, but if you looked at our budget you might have asked yourself "that is your treasure?".  We spent most of our money on our car payments and those aren't where our hearts are or where our treasure is.  The financial counselor asked us how we could change our car situation.  We had to make some big decisions.  Once the decision was made, I cried a little but now I know it's for the best.

We are a one car family.  We traded in both of our vehicles for only one car with a lower payment.  It's a lower payment and only having a car makes everything about owning one cheaper.  Less in insurance, tune up costs, gas etc.  We are giving ourselves 6 months to see how it works.  The nice thing is I'm having a baby in a few weeks so where am I going by myself right away?  We had to work some details out with our day to day activities especially on Tuesdays when we both have meetings in town, but hubby has been able to change some things.  I cried a little when they drove my escape away but I know it's for the best.  I know I might also cry the first time we both need the car and I "lose" and have to stay home, but it's all a give and take.  We have learned a lot through this process and I'm beginning to love our "new" car more and more.  Because my treasure is not in my car or my car payments.  It's my faith and my family!

  1. We have a car situation that will have to change very soon too. I just keep having faith that the Lord will help us figure out what is the best thing to do.

I think the choice you guys made was wise but definitely tough. I know the Lord will bless you guys for your faithfulness. Making better choices about how we spend our money is not easy, that's for sure!

  2. I'm finally catching up on some of my blogs! I'm so proud of you for puting your "money where your mouth is"! Way to be a "Doer", and not a "Hearer" only! You're an inspiration

  3. It's not easy, but I'm sure you'll be fine with only one car! You just have to plan ahead a little more instead of packing up on a whim and heading to the store or wherever. My car was actually broken down for almost TWO YEARS, so we technically only had one, and it was tough as Matt had to drive it to work every day, 30 min. each way, but since I work from home it wasn't *that* bad. Like you said, it's hard to get places alone with a toddler and a baby anyway. Good luck! :)
