Cross Country

Well, I still haven't had much time to think about my "drafts" for some future posts.  It seems I can barely keep up with the towels and the laundry.  We've had company for most of the last week.  It has been really fun to see friends and family, but it has left little time for personal/quiet time and reflection.

Usually I spend Martin's nap time cleaning and then working on crochet projects or reading if I have time.  Today though, I had to watch a video I rented from the library.  It's due today and a trip to the library is happening in a few minutes.  The movie is Prefontaine.  I have watched it before a few times and it always makes me remember how much I love running.  Steve Prefontaine was an amazing runner with a passion for winning.  If you enjoy sports or running, it's a pretty good movie!

The reason I needed to watch it again is because I am the cross country coach next year at our local high school.  It's probably something I will have the team watch in the first few weeks of practice.  I am really excited to be the coach.  I was a runner in high school.  My dad, who was a teacher, and the cross country coach saw some potential in me my freshman year after volleyball season ended.  I never had the talent to be a good volleyball player, but it seems I could run.  I raced with my varsity team all 3 years at state and have enjoyed running off and on over the past few years.  I have even completed a 1/2 marathon (that was a while ago...).  I'm anxious to meet the team and get my season planned out.  I'm nervous because I've never been a coach and I have an all day head coach class I have to take.  I know it will all work out.  It is an answer to a prayer.  I have found a baby-sitter for Martin in the afternoons for the couple months of the season and then I am done for the year.  The team is small, but hopefully some students will see that we are having fun and join us the next year.  I just hope the team is running in the summer...I am!
