Communion bread

I baked communion bread with the 5th grade first communion class this week.  What a fun time.  I had to work the recipe on a very strict schedule to try and give them the most opportunities to actually be a part of the process.  They really enjoyed it and thought yeast was awesome!  I made it at home and let it rise one hour and then had the kids take turns kneading it and then we stuck in the oven to rise again.  While it was in the oven, Bryant talked a little more about the meaning behind communion.  Then we prayed for the people who helped make the bread, those that would take communion, and those who wouldn't.  They each kneaded and formed the smaller loaves and then put the cross in it.  I took it home to finish rising and bake it.  I thought it was a neat experience.  I was also able to serve the bread today for communion.  I hope everyone was able to get something out of the experience.  I think sometimes we forget what communion is about and seeing the 5th graders take it for the first time was eye opening (because sometimes we just fall asleep!).
