One time, when I was in 3rd or 4th grade I totally rocked the reading program at our library for the summer. I read like 300 books. It was a.m.a.z.i.n.g. So, even though Big M is only 3 (almost 4) we signed him up for the summer reading program. For his age group, we read for 10 hours this summer (not much for us) and then we get entered into a drawing. They also have some awesome activities during the program at the library. Today we're going to see a guitar player and have story time.
I've also been trying to have us color each day. I love Target and Joann's for their $1 crafts. Big M is not a color kid. He loves picking out other things to doodle on. Some of his favorites are using markers on those wooden bird houses. We've made a few homes for birdies already this year.

He mostly colors his tray, but it's cute! (Oh and he eats chocolate teddy grahams. That's cute too.)
Speaking of my younger days, we used to have thumb print drawings hanging in our kitchen. (My mom does not remember this as clearly as I do). I remember buying them at the craft fair in town and they would stick our thumb prints in them. They hung above the stove on little wooden tiles. Super cute. Now, my mom can't find them, but I'm not mad. I figured out how to make them on my own. The ones we had where more of a scene and then the thumb print was black. For example, one was a space scene and my sister's fingerprint made the main part of the rocket ship. The book I found has the thumb print more colorful. It's super easy to make trains, animals, flowers etc. Sarahndipties showed a project making chicks and mentioned Ed Emberley. Emberley also does drawing books with simple easy to follow instructions. Anna, from Lullabies and Lace used them too. My totally awesome library had the books (or got them for me!). I can't wait to make a few more. My large craft store had washable ink pads on sale and even the tiny little canvases to paint! So much fun! I will probably use these as a craft project for MOPS next year. Something the moms can try (and make anyway they like) and then use the idea at home with their kids.
I so need to get our craft on during these rainy and cold sunny days! And he is so cute with that chocolately face. :)
ReplyDeleteI have some of those dollar crafts from Michaels and I dread pulling them out because of the paint and the mess. I hadn't thought of letting them use washable markers on the wood pieces. Genius! We're going to try that when school is out! Thanks for the tip!
