Yep, that's right. Prayer, in my opinion, does not equal agreement. Prayer is your conversation or your community's conversation with God. It does not mean that it is absolute. God might be speaking to us in different ways. I am not a political person or someone who gets wrapped up in politics, either church or government. I have just had this feeling that some (not all) people who pray for these things feel they have the absolute. They know exactly what God wants and they are praying for it. Then, when it goes a different way, they feel that God is not present or the devil was at work in the situation or that we are getting too far from our roots. Maybe you feel God speaking to you in that situation, but so do I.
I guess I just have to come out and say it. I read a few posts over the 4th of July about people praying for our government because it is (for lack of a better "general" term) horrible. Now, you can agree or disagree that's fine. But, what if the people on the other side of the issue are praying too. I'm sure there are some that are. Then what? Christians on all sides of the issues are praying. We need to realize this. You and I might not agree, but please don't say that just because something went a different way than you wanted that it is not what God wanted. I am praying too. I might be praying for something different. God is working through this, no matter what people think.
The same is true in our church politics. We pray and pray over votes and decisions and people leave our denomination because they don't agree with others. But those others were praying too. We are all interpreting life, politics, the government, family, everything, differently. So please, just because something in either your church or our government isn't going as you think it should, please don't assume that God isn't working there. I know it's hard, but there are others out there praying too. It's not a competition. It's about the love of God being heard everywhere. It's hard to hear of that love when all you get is "I prayed and I can't believe the government (or the church) still went through with xyz. They must not be Christians". Really? I am a Christian, trying to spread the love of Christ and praying. Praying for so many things. Our prayer should be simple. Thy Will Be Done!
At the time we may not understand why the xzy happened until later or may be not at all.
ReplyDeleteOh, yes. Plus, one of the major reasons we pray is so that God can change OUR hearts, not His plans.
