Time

Rachel over at Finding Joy posted this about time. She then asked what we have learned over the course of time.

I have learned that being in the present is more important than the past or the future. (Seminary taught me this. It always seemed as if we were waiting for the next next next thing or thinking about the wonderful things in the past. It's right now that is important to me).

I have learned there is a big different between the urgent and the important (see this post).

That what I think defines me most of the time doesn't.

That I talk to much and listen too little.

That friendship can not be decided by the age of the person.

That marriage (and parenting) can not be a competition. It just won't work to keep score. Also, the things I "gave up" to be with my true love are things I don't miss and probably didn't need anyway! (It took me a few years into seminary to figure that one out! We are both called together to this life.)

I'm sure over time I will learn so much more. I hope I'm open to the learning process. God has a way of refining me that is sometimes not welcome at the time but always necessary and done out of love.
