This is a repeat post from the blog I do on our two little PK (pastor's kids). I thought maybe a few would want to know!
Well we made it home! A lot has happened since we left the hospital. Thankfully, Martin is doing beautifully as a big brother. Matthew woke him up from his nap the minute we walked in the door on Sunday afternoon. Martin did get tired and cranky and has been woken up a few more times during nap and night time now that the baby is here. Other than that, he got a baby doll from Oma and has been loving the attention Oma gives him. We will see what happens Wednesday morning when we leaves!Sunday evening went well. Matthew is working on straightening out his days and nights. He is eating a lot more at night and sleeping a lot during the day. Bryant and I have been trading places in the rocking chair after feedings to give each other some rest. Matthew is a lot like Martin. He is kind of a lazy eater and struggles to latch on and get going. He also would rather be held than put to sleep in his bassinet or glider. We do try to swaddle him the first time we go to bed and put him in the glider after Martin is asleep to see how long that will last. The diaper changes are what wakes the whole house up. I just sent them all to run errands. I would love to leave the house and am feeling really good, but with Matthew not eating as well as I would like (or rather it taking so long to get him to eat) it just didn't seem worth it to pack us up to go with. Bryant's mom leaves on Wednesday morning and luckily some friends and Martin's baby sitter and going to help me Wednesday afternoon/evening so Bryant can prepare for confirmation and then lead Lenten worship.
Labor and delivery for me went pretty well. I actually feel really good. Not a lot of pain (which is very different from the last time) and I even took a walk with the family yesterday it was so nice out. We went into the hospital on Friday at 11am to get checked in to be induced. My doctor came in around 12:30 and broke my water. Matthew was having none of that. So after walking some and resting, the doctor came back at 3pm and put in my epidural and we started pitocin. I was at 6cm when my doctor came back at about 5:30 and he gave me more stuff for my epidural since the first one had worn off. It had worn off so much that I was allowed to get up with help to walk to the bathroom. That is usually a big no no when you have had a block put in your lower body. The doctor wanted to run home and would be right back. I'm wondering if he even made it home. They upped my pitocin when he left and it was then I realized the 2nd epidural was not taking. My right leg barely felt tingly and I had complete feeling in my left. My great nurse called him to come back and he gave me a 3rd shot and it didn't work at all. By that point I was a 10 and we weren't going back. Afterwards he said he was afraid if he tried to give me a 4th shot we would have had trouble since I felt like pushing during that time. He was very sorry the epidural didn't work and said "next time he'd know to give me more". Next time?!?!?! Dude, let's finish with this second one. I panicked when the 3rd epidural didn't work. I was not mentally prepared to not have one. I knew there would be pain with an epidural, but I couldn't wrap my head around not having one. I told Bryant I didn't know what to do and I couldn't do it. Luckily both my nurses and my doctor got me back on track. I still had a few moments of "Oh no, this isn't going to work", but I pushed for only 20-30 minutes and he was out. Perfect and everything. It was an amazing experience and I'm glad it was so different from Martin's and I'm actually kind of glad the epidural didn't work. I had a beautiful baby boy less than 8 hours after coming to the hospital. We had great nurses and feel really glad that things worked out they way they did!
So glad that things are going as well as can be at home. The beginning is definitely an adjustment but you guys will find a groove before you know it!
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome that Matthew's birth was different in a good way. My second time was totally different than the first and I also had to go natural. I had that little I can't do it freak out moment too but I'm thankful that the Lord carried me through!
I can't wait for delivery to be over and done with for me so I can see my little girl's face already!
