Being drafted

We can't believe that two years ago we walked up to my hubby's seminary mail box to get the little envelope that would begin our process to receive our first call in the ministry.  We were all being drafted.  Well, we use the term "draft" lightly.  It's really called the "assignment process".

All graduating seminary students from the 8 seminaries of the ELCA filled out paperwork at the beginning of the school year to be considered for the spring "draft".  We can list "preferences" for what region we want to be assigned too, but we had to remember that they were just that, preferences.  It truly is a call process, full of prayer and discernment by those who will do the drafting.  There are 9 regions in the US that we could be drafted into and from there in a few weeks we would be divided into the synods where we would serve.

So, did we get our first choice?  Nope.  Would I change a single thing about our first call?  Nope.  The only thing I would have changed was my attitude.  It was and has been an amazing journey from the start of seminary to over a year into our first call.  I'm so glad we're called!  What a great feeling...

This little seminary baby had no idea what was coming next, but neither did we. You just can't go against the call of God.
