Church Training
Church training, kind of like sleep training for small kids. That's what I'm calling my time with Martin right now during worship. We are church training him. I realize it might be very annoying and disruptive to other people (although they tell me it's not), but if I take him out of church he's at the age where he understands actions and consequences. He realizes now that if he yells loud enough I might take him out. So the last few Sundays I have decided no matter what we're sitting in church. We don't have any other option. We don't have a nursery and he doesn't understand time outs or spankings so we're stuck. He does understand that no matter what we're not leaving church. I realize at some churches they ask you to leave, but in this case my kid will never understand and I'll spend the whole worship service outside the sanctuary. If I felt like I had another option I would use it but this is it for right now! We'll see how it goes. We've made it two weeks. He was a little crabby today, but we're working on it.

I hope you can make some progress! Just remember they won't be like this forever (we hope!!)
ReplyDeleteSometimes a screaming kid can distract me during my sermon. But I just remind myself I'd rather have noisy kids in church than none at all!!!!!
ReplyDeleteTruth. He's not too loud so I don't feel like it completely ruins the worship service for others. It involves a lot of "yogurt drops" or candy, but we're making it!
